I have found this out recently. For a while I was submitting exactly the same description for my various sites to several directories. That worked okay.
Then I read that you should have about three or four that you rotate, along with different achor text. I tried that and it seemed to help more.
But as you say, completely original descriptions are the best! I’ll be sure to make every single one unique from now on.
