Today I will post an interview with Vlad Khorkhorov. He is a lead developer of vldPersonals.

vldPersonals is a dating software I use almost for one year. I should confess, that this software has the most clean code I have ever seen. vldPersonals is very customizable and full of features. Besides, VLD Interactive has a really great support.

So, enjoy the interview.

UD: Can you, please, tell some words about yourself.
VLAD: My name is Vlad and I’m a lead developer at VLD Interactive. We’re a small company based in Toronto, Canada specializing in different areas of the web industry.

UD: Why dating software? Does it look profitable today or there is(are) any other reason(s)?
VLAD: It started back in our college days. We wanted to create a way for new students at our campus to communicate with each other and find new friends. Although, due to studies, we weren’t able to put in as much time as we would like into development. In any case it was still being worked on and after college slowly evolved into a dating portal with richer functionality and took off as complete product.

UD: What is the most difficult thing in developing dating web systems? What is the most pleasant?
VLAD: The most difficult part is to foresee the future of the product and build those features that many of our clients will benefit from without sacrificing any other functionality or performance. Of course I want to thank everyone contributing to the development and our clients who’re constantly on the lookout for new ideas. Happy clients is what matters and drives our motivation.

UD: How long do you work on VLDP?
VLAD: It’s difficult to pin point an exact time frame since we work on different projects at the same time. Usually we release a new update every 4 months. Minor updates may come out more often though.

UD: Please write about your software’s special features or some original characteristics if any. What are you proud of in your product? Why are you different?
VLAD: vldPersonals includes most features you would expect from a modern dating software. The parts we focus on most is performance and flexibility. Many people don’t realize that a well coded application is what’s going to matter when your site gets popular. Starting out difficult but once you hit a jackpot and start receiving thousands of visitors a day, that’s when it gets even more difficult to maintain the speed of your site. No one likes slow loading pages, and neither do we. We take pride of our product and its ability to handle very large amounts of data.

UD: What are your main goals in developing VLDP? I mean what do you want to see in VLDP in the future? What plans do you have?
VLAD: Our goal is to continue the development enhancing what we currently have and expanding the feature list. We might release a social network version of the product in some time that will be similar to vldPersonals but have social network targeted features.

UD: What features or characteristics should contain successful dating site? What is the key to success in dating business?
VLAD: Being unique (in a good way obviously) is what usually brings success. Caring for your clients is also a must in any type of business.

UD: How do you think what the future of online dating is? Who will win: social networks or old-school dating sites or something new will appear?
VLAD: While social networks and dating sites seem similar, they’re still targeting two different audiences. There are plenty of people looking for their soul mates on the internet. When people come to a social network site, they are generally looking for friends or people they used to work or study with. But when they come to a dating site, they are looking for a bit more than just friends and thus expect your site to have appropriate atmosphere.

UD: Some words for UsualDating readers who want to start dating business.
VLAD: Do your research before starting anything. If you would like to turn it into a profitable business, it will help if you have a business plan. Don’t try to conquer the world but rather pick a niche you would like to target. This is one of the most important steps. Don’t be afraid to start small as you can always expand.
