Today we will install OsDate, my favorite free dating software. If you would like to set up own dating site at minimum cost and to build members database from the very beginning this series of posts are for you.В

We’ll need an OsDate installation package which you may download from the official page. Follow this Direct Link for Downloading OsDate. It is about 37Mb in weight and the current version of the script is 2.0.8. Make sure it has been downloaded properly, so you won’t have any problems with unpacking the archive.OK, unpack the archive into some folder on your hard drive. We have two folders inside flash_source and public_html. We will need the second one for the installation.

Next step is to connect to your server, where files of this beautiful dating software will be placed. You may use any program you prefer. I like Total Commander with built in FTP client. For example you may use FileZilla, CuteFTP or any other.

Stop! What is my server? Where is it? What is my future dating website address? Where to connect?OK, these are very interesting questions. Before downloading and installing OsDate, make  sure you have registered some dating related domain, purchased webhosting at some good hosting company and you have full access to your hosting account: FTP, cPanel and so on. If you don’t know how to do that, Subscribe to Usual Dating Feed! I will write about everything you need to know.

Well let’s assume we have domain and hosting. So run your favorite FTP client and upload all files from the public_html forlder to your server. It will take some time, so get some coffee) 

Uploading has been finished and we can proceed to the install process.

Point your browser to http://www.your-future-popular-dating-web-site-address.com/install.php. Note, this address will be valid if you have not uploaded OsDate to some subfolder, but server root folder (public_html or www - depends on hosting).
This is what you should see:

Depending on your hosting you may see red “NO” instead of green “YES”. This can be fixed by changing permissions of some folders of uploaded package. The following folders should have write access:

/myconfigs
/templates_c
/temp
/cache
/emailimages
/banners
/userimages
/uservideos

Right click on the folder in your FTP client and search for “Change permissions” option. Usually the attributes are set to 777 or 755. But again it depends on hosting you use.
Then click “Continue” and proceed to the step two:

During this step you will need to enter some essential information about your MySQL database and server you have created before. You have not? Go to cPanel and do that now. Find MySQL Databases link and enter the name of your future database in Create New Database box. Name it osdate fro example, then click create database. Below you will find the full name of the created database. Next create user for that database with full permissions. You will need name and password for that user. Fill all the data in the OsDate installation window  and click “Continue” You may also try MySQL Database Wizard in cPanel.
Wow. We are still doing well. Next screen you should see:
Choose the preferred username and password for admin panel of В OsDate. Also you may change default language and country you are in.
Done. Click “Continue”
I congratulate you. It’s ready! Click “Continue”. Then you will be able to configure mail settings. You may bypass this step as I usually do. In most cases default PHP Mail functions work properly. Next screen will suggest to delete install_files folder and install.php file. Locate this folder in your FTP client and delete. Do the same with install.php. Click “Finish” It has been a long way and you should see your own, fresh and ready to configure dating site.

Congratulations! You may now login to your dating site admin panel http://www.your-future-popular-dating-web-site-address.com/admin/ and look through the options you have. Have fun and get some experience.В В В
